Pre-Orthodontic Periodontal Augmentation

Pre-orthodontic periodontal augmentation, or POPA, is a procedure that is used to treat bony deficiencies around teeth prior to orthodontic treatment. It addresses the biological need for augmentation of deficient bone sites prior to orthodontic tooth movement. The procedure has been shown to minimize the risk of gum recession and relapse after orthodontic treatment. Pre-treatment cone bean computed tomography is essential to facilitate proper diagnosis and planning.
